It's easy to forget, when moving to London for the first time, that it is a huge city.

It's easy to forget, when moving to London for the first time, that it is a huge city. While commuting across town might be reasonable in Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, or any of England’s other cities, it is essential when looking for houses to buy or rent in London to ensure that you are near to your most regular destination – or at least near to good tube links.

While the much bemoaned public transport is far better than it is often given credit for, it can’t make London smaller than it is, it can still take up to half an hour to cross central London and so when looking for flats to rent or house for sale, considering your daily commute is a must.

Even if you’re happy to live in the suburbs, transport links are an essential consideration for any home purchase – can you get into the city conveniently and, more importantly, when you are in the city are you in a location that is convenient for your workplace?

For example, High Barnet to Bank takes 40 minutes on the Northern Line and may well be considered a reasonable commute. But if you looked for flats to rent on Southbank instead you could walk to work with little problems.

The London housing market it does not necessarily follow that the areas closest to the centre have the highest prices, and better deals and, perhaps, higher levels of convenience could well be found with a bit of research on sites such as FindaProperty.com.

It is easy to assume that house prices in Kensington and other areas of West London are representative of the market as a whole, but in such a dynamic and vibrant city this is no bad thing. There are so many hidden gems that with an open mind and flexibility when looking at online property finder  websites is massively rewarded by some great deals.
